Black Star Drum Line was formed in 2008 by director and Madison Scouts alumnus Joey B. Banks. Its mission is to provide youth in the Madison community an opportunity for creative expression through the percussive arts.

In 2017, the Black Star Drum Line become a performing ensemble managed by Forward Performing Arts and a partner group to the world-renowned Madison Scouts Drum & Bugle Corps.
